Make a Strategic Year-End Gift
With a year-end gift, you can help change a graduating Wilson College Prep student’s life through the Wilson Legacy Scholarship and benefit yourself and your loved ones at tax time.
Give From Your Retirement Account
Giving from your retirement account: If you are 70 ½ years old or older, the IRS requires you to start withdrawing from most types of tax-advantaged retirement accounts. You must also take Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) from retirement account you inherit. For most people, the deadline for taking an RMD is December 31. If you miss the deadline or take less than you’re supposed to, you could be subject to a tax penalty. To avoid this penalty, you can donate your RMD to the Wilson Legacy Scholarship through the Phoenix Union Foundation for Education. Qualified charitable distributions (QCDs) won’t be added to your taxable income for the year, potentially saving you money in taxes. If you want to direct a portion of your RMD as a charitable donation to the Wilson Legacy Scholarship through the Phoenix Union Foundation for Education, tell your financial advisor/IRA custodian, or email info@foundation4education.org. Phoenix Union Foundation for Education tax ID is 86-523265.
Distributions can be mailed to:

Give Stock or Other Assets
A gift of stock involves transferring shares of stock directly to a charitable organization instead of making a cash donation. This method of giving can offer significant tax benefits and is a straightforward process. The benefits of this type of gift include:
- When you donate appreciated stock that you’ve held for more than one year, you can avoid paying capital gains tax on the increase in value. This can result in a larger donation to the charity and a bigger tax deduction for you.
- By donating stock directly, both you and the charity can benefit from the full value of the asset without the tax burden, potentially making your donation more impactful.
- Donating stock can simplify your giving, especially if you hold a diverse portfolio of appreciated assets. It can also be an efficient way to donate significant sums without affecting your cash flow.
